Local performers given unique showcase opportunities

PRESS RELEASE
Basingstoke, UK
April 20th, 2008

Local performers given unique showcase opportunities

The imminent launch of Radio Basingstoke dotcom, at 1pm on Thursday 1st May, gives north Hampshire bands and artists of all genres a new and unique opportunity to showcase their work.
They have the chance of having a half-hour programme dedicated to their work on a show hosted by Radio Basingstoke's Station Manager, Lee Williams, who will interview the artists and play their promotional CD's on air. The programme will air three times over a two week period at different times of the day.

The CD will also feature as their "Artist of the Week" on a new website to be launched shortly.

This new radio station, a new venture by Headline Management, will play music of all genres round the clock and, whilst there will be some presenters, there will be less chatter and more music. Though it is funded by commercials, these will be kept to three minute segments each half hour.

Station Manager, Lee Williams said: “Radio Basingstoke is a community radio station, at the heart of our local community, and support of local artists is part of our mission and offer sensibly-priced promotions packages for new CD releases.”

Artists wishing to showcase their work, or to obtain details of the sensibly-priced promotional packages for new CD releases, can submit details by e-mail to lee@radiobasingstoke.com

Asked if he was confident of the future of Internet radio, Williams said: “A recent report claimed that internet radio has hit the mainstream. More than 8 million people in the UK listen to web-based radio services every week and nearly 2 million download podcasts on a weekly basis, according to a survey that suggests internet radio has hit the mainstream.”

Commissioned by the industry's audience research body Rajar, the Ipsos Mori survey last autumn found that more than 12 million people have listened to the radio online and 8.1 million listen every week either through live streaming or "listen again" services.

Ipsos Mori found that 75% of users do not listen to less live radio as a result of listening again online, with 50% tuning into new shows as a result.

For Radio Basingstoke, this is good news. Williams said: “This survey proves what we in the radio industry already knew! We are looking forward to the forthcoming launch of Radio Basingstoke on 1st May and this news is very positive for us.”

Tasked more about the use of “community” in their mission statement, Williams explained that two local schools, Bishop Challoner RC School and Costello Technology College, are working on weekly shows produced by groups of students. In addition, local presenters will be featured and there will be extensive “what’s on” coverage, through the website and on-air programming. Further, local job opportunities will be featured to help jobseekers.

There are also opportunities for the general public to become involved. These range from being able to text requests to the station (0787 401 6433) through to volunteering to master their new MySpace presence (www.myspace.com/radiobasingstoke). In particular, the station will heavily feature news of what is happening in the local community so anyone with an upcoming event is asked to e-mail full details to events@radiobasingstoke.com.

For a radio station for north Hampshire, the name Radio Basingstoke was an obvious choice. Williams discloses though that it was actually a close run thing with “Amazingstoke” until it was found that an enterprising author has already registered amazingstoke dotcom. However, he was happy for the station to adopt it as part of their logo which will soon be displayed prominently around the district.

Radio Basingstoke will be found on http://www.radiobasingstoke.com/ through your PC, internet radio and many popular mobile phones.

Chicago's James Marshall joins Headline Management portfolio

Read what a reviewer said about James Marshall:

New album review!

Artist: James Marshall
Title: We Are The Dreamers
Genre: Pop-Rock-Folk
Label: City Streets Records
Website: http://www.james-marshall.com

Sweet pop rock fill the grooves, or should I say digital imprint (excuse me for my reminiscing about vinyl) of We Are The Dreamers.

James Marshall is the crafty singer/songwriter/guitarist on all twelve tracks of this exceptional CD.Marshall’s focus is on dreamy vocals with a slight rasp accompanied by jingly guitars to pull you away from the space your in.

This CD is definitely the kind of music that tends to grow on you, it took me a few listens before it all sank in and I could appreciate everything the artist accomplishes with this recording. The fact that he is a multi-task DYI person, and an excellent one at that, is quite notable. He certainly has all the attributes of artist that is capable of taking his career to the next level or any direction he chooses.

The best tunes for my listening pleasure were “The Nah-Nah Song,” which has an irresistible rap sprinkled about it and “Forever and a Day,” a charming pop diamond that stays in your head for hours. The entire CD is a solid representation of a genre that is in dire need of help. We need more artists like this. When you hear hit singles from the 60s on the radio, you have to wonder if they will ever make music like that again.

Well, I guess this is as close as it gets for great rock-pop tunes that you want to hear over and again.

This was a very satisfying, warm, and above all inviting listen.

New York's MACAN joins Headline Management

In an era when music is often geared more towards tabloids than truth, it is refreshing to find an artist concerned with making honest artistic statements rather than fueling rumour mills.

Such is the case with Machan, a singer whose exotic adult pop-meets-jazz sound and striking countenance are reinforced not by garish actions and flamboyant declarations, but rather by her own heartfelt songs and the sincere joy she receives from sharing those songs with others.

It is that passion for performing and love of singing that led Machan to work as a background vocalist for artists such as Sting, Pink Floyd, Pat Benetar, George Benson, Gov't Mule and others, along with stints fronting the Glenn Miller Orch and the jazz ensemble Hiroshima.

Recently finishing her 2nd solo project, Machan celebrates her new deal with NuGroove/Warlock Records and her new CD "Motion of Love" scheduled for release July 24th.

We recommend a visit to Macan's MySpace page, listen to the tracks - and enjoy! And have a look at her website: http://www.geishagirlmusic.com/

Blondee - the ultimate Blondie tribute show

Blondee is a 6 piece Blondie tribute band from South-east of England.
BLONDEE have been playing around the region for some years and have been told they sound the closest band to the real thing. They are all very experienced musicians and know how to put on a great show.

The band is fronted by the charismatic Dee, who eerily reproduces Debbie Harry’s vocals and ‘don’t mess with me’ attitude. Strutting around the stage in some of Debbie’s trashiest, sexiest outfits, Dee provides the perfect focal point for the band onstage.
The band's set-list can be tailored to fit any venue or event and Dee makes one costume change mid-show - though more can be negotiated by agreement. They can play a full Blondie set of an hour and half, or an 1hour Blondie greatest hits set, or 2 x 45 minutes.

As far as we know, 'Blondee' is Only Blondie tribute band to incorporate the full Blondie line up of two guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. Find out more at: http://www.blondie-tribute-band.co.uk/
