Loose shoes head for Windsor

Loose shoes head for Windsor

On Wednesday 16th January, a unique band, a Texas-style swing funk and blues band called Loose Shoes, will appear live on stage at Chicago Rock Cafe, Windsor as part of their Wicked On Wednesday season.

Dennis Maroney, lead guitar/vocals/harmonica, is originally from Austin, Texas and played with Loose Shoes, an 8-pc band that included the fabulous Triggermen horn section throughout Texas for 7 years. Dennis has played at one time or another at all of the major clubs in Texas and has opened up for several national touring shows at various outdoor festivals. He has played throughout the U.S. with various groups over his 30 years of playing live shows.

When he came to the UK, he formed the UK-version of Loose Shoes and brought together some talented musicians.

Dave Mattey, lead guitar, was the founder member of the seminal Cambridge folk-rockers Zyzygy, and the Mad Professors, an Irish-heavy metal-reggae ceilidh band, still gigging after 35 years to bewildered audiences. Dave worked and recorded in the US in the '80s and played with the reggae band Cool Runnings, a national act. Back in the UK Dave played bass for the Sue Lyn Band and guitar for a variety of blues, soul and big bands.

Richard (Dick) Fancutt, on keyboards, has worked as a session player and has played for various soul, blues and R&B bands over the last 25 years. He is also currently involved with The Purple Project, a highly acclaimed band of professional and ex-pro players (including founder Voyager members Chris Hook and Johnny Marter) dedicated to reproducing the classic rock of Deep Purple. Earlier this year, Dick gigged with Dougie White of Whitesnake fame.

Simon Cole, bass/vocals, has played with several London based bands and toured as a session bass player throughout Europe with various national acts throughout the 70's and 80's. He has played in various outfits during the years including a stint with jazz rockers Amyl Nitrate and the Takeoffs with Peter Lockett (ex The Moody Blues) and Bryson Graham (ex Spooky Tooth/Ten Years After).

Completing this very special line-up, with a musical pedigree to die for, is Jim Lassen on drums. He started playing drums at 16. With various ex-Iron Maiden musicians, Jim co-formed Gibraltar, a London-based heavy rock band. He joined Rhythm Method and played at a number of prestigious venues, including the ‘Orange’ and ‘Garage’ clubs in London. The band was also given airtime on Radio 1 as one of the best, unsigned bands. Jim went on to do a stint with the Pepperhorns, a Latin/African band, followed by numerous (last minute) one-off deps including a gig with Simon Le-Bon (Duran Duran), and a gig with Greg Ridley (ex Humble Pie). A man of many talents, Jim also played a gig on a Thames boat with a 20-piece jazz big band.

Admission to this event is £2 before 10pm and £3 after. The band is supported by popular Chicago's DJ, Gary O'Brien, who will take us through to 1am with a disco.
