Meet Shelly Quarmby, singer-songwriter

Shelly Quarmby: Clear, precise acoustic music, melodic ballads with clear piano driven hooks and biographical lyrics. A blend of powerful and stunningly warm vocals reminiscent of country music, with influences of folk-style vocal tone; and songwriting style influenced by greats such as Carole King.

A four year old Shelly Quarmby, stands quite comfortably in front of her family singing with her first bright red and yellow microphone and speaker set.

To say she never looked back is an understatement, there has never been a time where Shelly has contemplated doing anything else but singing for a living. Working through the ABRSM syllabus from an early age, Shelly gained a distinction in Grade 8 singing and also has Grade 7 in piano.

She has a wide interest in the arts; she trained in ballet and studied Performing Arts. Shelly continued to advance her studies and by the age of 21 years obtained a BA (Hons) Music and Popular Music, whilst simultaneously working for four years as part of a popular music duo singing around the country at weddings and formal functions. She trained in both classical and contemporary music.

The 25 year old has never relied solely on her influences to create her own material but believes it slowly seeps in to her subconscious to generate material and each new song finds strength from the previous. Shelly's songs consist of melodic ballads with clear piano driven hooks and biographical lyrics.

Feeling the basis and very core of a song is what's important to her; clear, precise acoustic music has always been her passion. Any music should be able to be broken down and stand alone even with a simple piano accompaniment. This is one of the many reasons why Shelly admires the writing of Carole King, a songwriter who has had many of her songs arranged in different ways.

Shelly believes "if you have a solid foundation, then you have the ability to do what you want with it and it'll still be good". Shelly has a vast array of musicians she is influenced by and it would be hard to name them all, she knows who she aspires to and admires. Shelly's ultimate idol, "vocally" she says, is Linda Ronstadt. "She has an incredibly powerful voice, with crystal-like clarity, yet such a rich tone at the same time."

Along with Linda Ronstadt, from an early age she remembers listening to her parents' music, anything from Aaron Neville, Fairground Attraction and Terence Trent D'Arby to Bob Seger and old country music greats like Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton!

She is still a great fan of country music, nowadays it's artists such as Trisha Yearwood, the Dixie Chicks, Alison Moorer and Emmylou Harris. Vocally Shelly has a captivating blend of folk, country and pop reminiscent of her influences Linda Ronstadt, Bette Midler, Vonda Shepard and Trisha Yearwood.

Shelly draws types of influence from different artists; through her writing she is inspired by Jimmy Webb, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Randy Newman. Shelly aspires to the great entity that is the female singer-songwriter; amongst her favourites are Chantal Kreviazuk, Paula Cole and of course the "outstanding talent" of Sarah Mclachlan.

For Shelly, music is a passion, songwriting is a great release of the mind and emotions. "I'm very meditative in my thinking - insightful and reminiscent; you have to learn from all your experiences in your life, it can only make you a better person – and songwriter!"

Pippa Drysdale is an Australian folk-pop artist who writes the kind of songs that reach into your chest and flick your soul.

Her music has been described by Groove magazine as "entrancing" and by Drum Media as "a sweeter slice of Fiona's Apple".

Artists she has been likened to range from Natalie Merchant, Beth Orton and Jewel to the likes of Suzanne Vega. She has toured Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth and appeared on numerous radio stations live including RTR fm, Curtin Fm, Joy Fm, and Radio Fremantle.

She has been touring Sydney recently playing the main stage at Peats Ridge Music Festival.

Her first two self-made CD's have sold throughout Europe (Holland, France, Scotland, Ireland, England, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, and Switzerland), the States (New York, California, Philadelphia, Oregon, Indiana), Africa, Canada and Australia.

In late November 2007, she spent four days at Love Hz studios in Sydney recording 5 new songs with the very talented Michael Carpenter and Matt Fell - the other 6 for the new album will be done early in 2008.

In June 2008 she will embark on a tour of Europe to promote her new CD. "Calamine Lotion Boy", a track on her first CD received extensive airplay, was voted number one on the Triple J Unearthed Roots Chart in January 2007 and was chosen for the WAM compilation CD.

Her song "Hope Wish Pray", from her second album "helium", was a finalist in the WAM Music Awards in late 2006. "Trick of Destiny" a song to be included on her third album, was short listed for the Australian Songwriter's Association's Song of the Year competition in July 2007.

"Helium" was RTR's feature album of the week in February 2006.

Lazy Poker beat the blues with Headline Management

Lazy Poker, available for booking across Europe through Headline Management, came together in their current line-up in 2003, in time to play the Dundee Blues Bonanza, Europe's largest free blues music festival.

Their first album, The Real Deal, was released and they were excited to find radio airplay happening in USA and Australia. A deal for Blues Matters to distribute this album led to an agreement to record 3 albums for their label.

In 2005 they stepped into festival headline mode at The Orkney Blues Festival for the Friday night as the scheduled headline band had disintegrated in Glasgow en-route to the show!

2007 saw them play both the Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival and the British stage at The Great British R&B Festival, Colne.
Their first Blues Matters album was released in August 2007 and has been a top 10 blues album download success on iTunes.

Their line up comprises Jamie Harper (pictured above) on Guitars and Vocals, Grant McConnachie on Bass and Vocals with Mel Ross on Drums, Percussion and Vocals.

Crown Electric Company power up for UK tour

We welcome the CROWN ELECTRIC COMPANY from the US to the Headline Management portfolio.

We at Headline Management are very much looking forward to this unique rockabilly, roots and country music band.

The Crown Electric Company (so named for the company Elvis worked for in 1954) is one of the hottest rockabilly/jump blues bands to hit the circuit. The band is headlined by Peter Alden.

Alden is a highly respected Elvis tribute artist who has taken what he learned about the young Elvis' career and applied it to his new band. Growing tired of singing the same old stuff as an Elvis tribute artist, Pete has assembled a band that has all of the energy of the young Memphis flash quadrupled.

Terry Fulwider on lead guitar has mastered all the great playing styles of Scotty Moore, Chuck Berry, James Burton and others to create a master original sound and yet have all the traditional riffs everybody wants to hear. Joe Webber provides a strong bottom fill on bass guitar. Joe has mastered all the great boogie-woogie and jump blues bass lines to keep a song moving, and rocking. Chris James on Keyboard can provide a honky-tonk piano sound, as well as full electric keys and strings (if needed). If the horn sound is wanted, but due to budget can..t be provided, Chris is able to create a realistic horn sound to bring the sound of the fifties into the modern day. Rounding out the core group on percussion (& musical direction) is David Fontana. David is an accomplished drummer who holds everything together with perfect tempos and a backbeat that keeps everyone dancing. David also provides another Elvis connection as he is the son of Elvis' original drummer D.J. Fontana.

Crown Electric Company prides itself on being able to entertain "everyone". For those who don't like to dance, they put on an exciting stage show that people love to just sit and watch. Their show is not filled with "private jokes", everything they do onstage is meant to include the audience. For those who love to dance, their music provides a fantastic chance to do that.

Crown Electric Company plays some of the best known rockabilly covers, as well as some new originals to keep the atmosphere exciting. Recently at a show a fan told Pete "if Elvis had continued what he was doing in the fifties, he'd be you!!"

By playing great music that makes people want to dance, and creating a fun atmosphere both on stage and in the room, CROWN ELECTRIC COMPANY is the perfect band for fairs, festivals and parties of all kinds
